What are rhyming words?
Rhyming words are words that end with the same or similar ending sound.
It is a literary tool used in songs, poetry, or stories to make the writing educational, humorous, and to improve rhythm.
E.g. Hat & cat ➜ these words both end with the same sound “at”.
E.g. House & mouse ➜ these words end with the same sound “ouse”
Rhyming words don’t necessarily have to end with the same letters. Remember that the focus is only on the sound.
E.g. Brawl & tall ➜ these words don’t end with the same letters, but they end with the same sound.
Examples of rhyming words:
- Bat – Sat
These words both end with the same sound “at”.
- Seed – Feed
These words both end with the same sound “eed”.
- Cook – Look
These words both end with the same sound “ook”.
- Hot – Not
These words both end with the same sound “ot”.
- Jump – Lump
These words both end with the same sound “ump”.
- Cave- Save

- Boat – Coat
These words both end with the same sound “oat”.
- Mice – Spice
